A. Definition of Biography Text

Biography is the story of a person's life that is more complex than just a curriculum vitae and work data. Generally, biographies tell more about the feelings a person faces in dealing with an event or a person's life.

In the biography, it is explained about the life of a character from childhood until he grows up, even until he finally dies. All services, works, and things produced by a character are also clarified. The biographical text itself was composed not by myself. Life history text types include Short life history and Long life history.


B. Characteristics of Biography
  • Biography is not written by subject and always written in the third person.
  • The biographical text is not made by the person whose life is being told, but is told by someone else in the third person point of view.
  • Based on research.
  • The text is made based on the facts of a character's life experience containing the story or story of a character in navigating his life, whether it is in the form of advantages, problems or shortcomings written by other people so that they should be exemplary.
  • Describes the person's surroundings (where, when and how the person lived).
  • Telling in detail about the information about the characters told which include W/H Questions (What, Where, When, Why, How)
  • Use vivid language to narrate events.
  • The use of language must be clearly applied in a biographical text. In order to avoid errors in the information presented.

 

C. Generic Structure

1. Orientation (Introduction)
It is the opening paragraph, gives the readers the background information of the person. Usually contains narrated biodata such as full name, place and date of birth. Some general information can also be presented in this section as an introduction to the characters.

2. Events
In events, should be in chronological order. This stage is part of the events or events experienced by the character. Contains an explanation of a story in the form of problem solving, career processes, and various events that have been experienced by the character to lead him to a success.

3. Re-Orientation (Closing)
It consists of a conclusion or comment or the writer. Tell about the achievement or the contribution of the person. In closing, this section contains the author's view of the characters being told. This reorientation is optional, which means the author can give his personal view on the character being told or the author does not give his personal view on the character being told, which is not an important matter.


Example :



Ki Hajar Dewantara was born with the name Raden Mas (R.M.) Suwardi Suryaningrat. He was born on Thursday Legi, May 2, 1889 in Yogyakarta. Ki Hajar Dewantara comes from a noble family of Puro Pakualaman Yogyakarta.

His father is Kanjeng Pangeran Ario (K.P.A.) Suryaningrat and his mother is Raden Ayu (R.A.) Sandiah. K.P.A. Suryaningrat himself is the son of Paku Alam III. Ki Hajar Dewantara's nickname when he was a child was Denmas Jemblung (bloated) because when he was a baby his stomach was distended.
Being a noble family, made him get an adequate education. Ki Hajar Dewantara attended Europeesche Lagere School (ELS), a Dutch-owned elementary school in the village of Bintaran, Yogyakarta. After graduating from ELS, Suwardi Suryaningrat entered Kweekschool, a teacher's school in Yogyakarta.

Ki Hajar Dewantara also received an offer of a medical school scholarship. Precisely at a Javanese medical school in Jakarta called STOVIA (School Fit Opleiding Van Indische Artsen). Unfortunately 4 months later his scholarship was revoked because Ki Hajar's health was not good.
A few days before the revocation, he also received a message from the Director of STOVIA. This was because Ki Hajar Dewantara was considered to have raised radicalism against the Dutch East Indies Government. This radicalism is said to have been spread through a poem he brought at a meeting.
    
After graduating from STOVIA, Ki Hajar Dewantara received a Special Certificate of Proficiency in Dutch. Ki Hajar also became a journalist at the Javanese language newspaper "Sedyotomo", then the Dutch language newspaper "Midden Java in Yogyakarta, and "De Express" in Bandung.
Thanks to his good writings, in 1912 he was asked to take care of the Daily "De Express" Bandung by Dr. E.F.E. Douwes Dekker. His first writing was entitled "Indonesian Independence". He even became a member of the Daily Editor of "Kaoem Muda" Bandung, "Oetoesan Indies" Surabaya, "Tjahaja Timoer" Malang. Likewise, in 1912, Ki Hajar Dewantara accepted an offer from HOS.
The peak of Suwardi Suryaningrat's career in journalism was when he wrote Als ik eens Nederlander was on Buletin Bumi. This bulletin printed 5,000 copies and became famous among the public. This is because the writings in the form of criticism are considered very scathing. Until finally Ki Hajar Dewantara, dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo, and Dr. E.F.E. Douwes Dekker was arrested and then imprisoned.

The world of journalism that Suwardi Suryaningrat is engaged in has made his social circle wider and his political views more developed. He can express the thoughts and problems of his people through writings in various newspapers, magazines, and brochures and give light to his people who are in darkness.

In May 2018, his second solo song was released, V's Singularity became the first trailer for their album Love Yourself: Tear. The song debuted on British radio BBC Radio on 25 October 2018. A month after its release, The Guardian added Singularity to its Top 50 songs for June 2018.[13] And Billboard included this song at position 28 on their list of critics' Top 50 BTS Songs. Overall, Singularity received a good response from the public and music critics. The New York Times magazine ranked it 20th on its list of the 65 Best Songs of 2018, alongside Fake Love. Music critic Mikael Wood of the LA Times gave it a fourth place, Best Song to Listen to of 2018,and Music critic Laura Snapes of the Guardian included the song on her list of favorites on Best Music 2018: Albums and Songs.

On October 24, 2018, V became one of the youngest to receive the fifth class award of the Hwagwan medal, the Order Of Cultural Merit, which was awarded directly by the President of South Korea along with other BTS members for their contribution to spreading South Korean culture throughout the world.

In 2019, V and J-Hope collaborated with Swedish singer Zara Larsson to sing a song called A Brand New Day for the soundtrack of the BTS World album Game.The song was released on June 14, 2019, and successfully debuted at #1 in World Digital Song Sales.

In 2017, V managed to rank first in the 100 Most Handsome Face 2017 version of Tccandler. In 2018, V was again nominated for the same nomination and was ranked 5th. V also managed to top the list of Most Handsome Men In the World 2018 version of Famous Star 101. In addition, V was ranked first for Most Charismatic Men of Asia 2018 version of Star Momenter and also Most Beautiful Men in the World version of Dama .

V coined the phrase I Purple You before the BTS fan meeting in November 2017. Since then, purple has become the color of symbols for BTS and their fans. UNICEF also uses this phrase for their anti-bullying campaign in collaboration with BTS.

V got the nickname Hands of Midas because the things he wears are always sold out. These include brooches, perfumes, clothes, dolls, and much more. Thanks to this, many small artists claim to be helped by V's influence after wearing their products.
